Emerging Australian artist Troy Emery completed a Masters of Fine Art at Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney in 2010, and now lives and works in Melbourne.
Emery’s hyper-exotic creatures are highly decorative and embellished specimens. Each one starts its life as an anatomically correct taxidermy foam body which Emery adorns with brightly coloured polyester pompoms and other craft objects. Inspired by excessive and outlandish decorative textiles, Emery blends contemporary craft aesthetics with sinister traditions of taxidermy to create alluring animals that form a menagerie of strange and beautiful objects.
Troy Emery’s first solo exhibition with the Martin Browne Gallery will take place in Sydney, early 2013, after having previously shown at Iain Dawson Gallery - where this short film was made with Troy speaking of his practice.
