Freshly rebranded French fashion house Saint Laurent‘s campaign teaser has done little to rouse expectations for Hedi Slimane’s debut campaign.
The 7 minute black & white photographic montage ‘sneak peek’ at forthcoming collections has, according to YSL devotees online reaction, predicted a less than smooth transition for brand ‘Saint Laurent’ – newly sans the ‘Yves’ monicker of the designer who forged the Haute Couture brand in the 1960′s.
Following a pivotal apprenticeship at the House of Dior, Yves Saint Laurent was the first French couturier to showcase a full prêt-à-porter (ready-to-wear) line Рand today Slimane picked up the baton, steering the line to a new new era.
As reported at Vogue.co.uk:
Today Hedi Slimane unveiled his first collection for Saint Laurent since his appointment as creative director in March when he replaced Stefano Pilati. The collection had a 70s rock aesthetic with lots of black leather and corset-style flourishes on Stevie Nicks-esque flowing maxi dresses, chiffon blouses, large belts, and skinny trousers. Slimane is clearly trying to make his mark on the brand, controversially renaming it just a few months after his job began, but with this collection we’re still left a little unclear about what direction he’s taking Saint Laurent.
