New¬†work by South Australian designers Daniel To & Emma Aiston, known as Daniel.Emma, & Victorian designer Thomas Llewellyn, co-winners of the 2011 Object¬†Australian Design Now¬†competition is on display at Sydney’s Object Gallery.
Presented with original sketches & notes, the exhibition provides a fascinating glimpse into the ‘here and now’ of two of Australia’s brightest young design practices. These young designers are considered to be on the forefront of Australian contemporary design, having gained a distinguished reputation for their ingenious & inventive work.
Both Daniel.Emma & Llewellyn centred their work around the theme of vessels. The result is playful sculptural assemblages that explore the space that they exist in as well as the negative space that they create around them.
Daniel & Emma met whilst studying Industrial Design, prior to establishing their design practice. Awarded Australia’s richest design prize – the Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Award 2010, the same year the pair were nominated Most Promising Talent at 100% Futures London 2010. During Salone del Mobile Daniel.Emma were invited to participated in the Wallpaper Magazine ‘Hand Made Exhibition’ in Milan in April 2012.
Thomas Llewellyn completed an undergraduate degree in Industrial Design at RMIT, & his practice centres on working with a variety of materials by hand with a focus on adaptability, seeking to explore the ways in which ambiguity can pave the way for creativity on the part of the user.
