Bondi, Australia’s most famous beach, is set to rebuild the North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club, located on the prominent, iconic and national heritage site at the northern end of Bondi Beach.
The North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club is a founding club of Surf Life Saving Australia. It was established as early as 1906 when a tent clubhouse was pitched on land at Ben Buckler above the beach. Since then a number of clubhouses have been built on the present site at the northern end of the beach. Now, over a century after that first tent, the clubhouse will be transformed into a modern, contemporary sporting facility.
The design by award winning architects Durbach Block Jaggers will replace the recently demolished structure that was regarded by the designers as a ‘disconnected and introverted building’ – by contrast, the new proposal aims to deliver an ‘open connected and extroverted building,’ that will increase the accommodation and overhaul facilities.
